QUINCY — Suzanne Bump, a Democratic candidate for Massachusetts State Auditor, today announced she has received the endorsement of seven prominent Boston elected officials. They are:
- State Representative Liz Malia
- State Representative Linda Dorcena Forry
- State Representative Gloria Fox
- State Representative Martha Walz
- State Representative Jeff Sanchez
- Boston City Councilor Robert Consalvo
- Boston City Councilor Maureen Feeney
“Suzanne Bump has served the Commonwealth as both a state representative and most recently as leader of the Massachusetts Labor and Workforce Development Office,” said State Representative Malia. “She has a strong record of independence and reforming government to better serve the citizens and taxpayers in our state, and is the perfect person to run the State Auditor’s Office.”
Bump began her public service career in 1985 when she was elected state representative in Braintree, where she served her constituents for eight years. In 1991, while Chairwoman of the Commerce and Labor Committee, she authored a landmark bill to reform worker’s compensation costs that has brought fairness and accountability to the system and saved businesses millions of dollars every year, while delivering faster judgments to injured workers.
When Bump was named Leader of the Labor and Workforce Development Office in 2007, she reformed and streamlined the department, reducing first-stage dispute resolution timeframes from 2-3 years to 60-90 days, consolidating the state’s labor relations agencies, creating 11,000 new summer jobs for teens and upgrading the technology to improve her department’s productivity for job training, workplace and downtown improvements, and unemployment insurance checks.
“I’m running for State Auditor because I believe no taxpayer should ever wonder if there is anyone in government who is on their side, no taxpayer should ever wonder if a dollar they give to state government will be a dollar well spent by that government, and no resident, whether taxpayer or not, who depends on a government service should ever wonder whether that service will be compromised by a failed bureaucracy or a dishonest vendor cheating the system,” said Bump. “I’m thrilled to have the support of so many of our elected officials from Boston and look forward to serving the Commonwealth as its next Auditor.”
