Boston’s Ward 9 Democratic Committee Unanimously Endorses Suzanne Bump for State Auditor

Jul 12, 2010 | Suzanne Bump for Auditor

Suzanne Bump, a Democratic candidate for Massachusetts State Auditor, today announced that Boston’s Ward 9 Democratic Committee unanimously endorsed her candidacy at a recent ward meeting. Ward 9 encompasses sections of the city’s South End and Roxbury neighborhoods. Bump has been endorsed by numerous Boston legislators, including Rep. Gloria Fox who represents part of Ward 9, two city councilors, Congressmen Barney Frank and John Olver, and retiring State Auditor Joe DeNucci. Bump also received the majority vote at last month’s Democratic State Convention.

“The Ward Nine Democratic Committee is pleased to endorse the candidacy of Suzanne Bump for auditor,” said Jeanette Boone, head of the Ward 9 Democratic Committee. “Suzanne Bump is a progressive Democrat, hardworking and has a wealth of experience in government including economics and finance. In addition, our Committee was impressed with the extent of her campaign’s outreach to be inclusive.”

“I’m thrilled to have the unanimous endorsement of Ward 9 in the race for this important office,” said Bump. “Many residents of Ward 9 rely on the state for important services, and the Auditor’s office needs to ensure the government is capably providing them. I am running on my record of delivering high performance and measurable results to Massachusetts residents, and pledge to bring this same accountability to the Auditor’s office.”

Bump began her public service career in 1985 when she was elected state representative in Braintree, where she served her constituents for eight years. In 1991, while Chairwoman of the Commerce and Labor Committee, she authored a landmark bill to reform worker’s compensation costs that has brought fairness and accountability to the system and saved businesses millions of dollars every year, while delivering faster judgments to injured workers.

When she was Secretary of the Labor and Workforce Development Office she reformed and streamlined the department, reducing first-stage dispute resolution timeframes from 2-3 years to 60-90 days, consolidating the state’s labor relations agencies, creating 11,000 new summer jobs for teens and upgrading the technology to improve her department’s productivity for job training, workplace and downtown improvements, and unemployment insurance checks.
